Margaret Bazemore

On Monday, April 13, 2020, God quietly transitioned Margaret S.L. Bazemore from her home at 415 Truman Circle, Portsmouth, VA to His eternity in the sky.

Margaret was born in Kelford, North Carolina to the late, Otis L. Johnson and LeClair W. Shoulders on December 13, 1932. She graduated from J.B. Bond High School in May 1949. On June 14, 1949, Margaret married Rudolph Wood Bazemore, Sr. To this union, seven children were born; three daughters and four sons.

Margaret was a person of impeccable character, loyalty and integrity. She earned numerous awards and acclamations over 26 years of service with the Norfolk Naval Supply Center, where she retired in 1993.

Margaret was a faithful member of New Bethel Baptist Church and served on the usher board. Her thoughts and prayers went out to New Bethel, which remained her church home, even when she was unable to attend.

Margaret was preceded in eternal peace by her husband, Rudolph W. Bazemore, Sr., parents Otis L. Johnson and LeClair W. Shoulders; and her son Rudolph W. Bazemore, Jr. Her legacy is carried on by her children, daughters: Margaret J. Porter (Rufus) of Chesterfield, VA, Cynthia L. Beasley of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Dedria A. Bazemore of Portsmouth, Va; Sons: Kenneth W. Bazemore of Portsmouth, VA, Darryl V. Bazemore (Patricia) of Seattle, WA, Keith K. Bazemore of Seattle, WA.

Grandchildren: Yolanda L. Beasley, Teya M. Long, Antonio A. Staton, Rufus H. Porter, Jr., Derek A. Foskey, Takia T. Willis, Demetrius T. Lynch, Leticia R. Bazemore, Derrell E. Lynch, Kimberly M. Porter, DeAngelo C. Lynch, Ta’Von L. Felton, Keefe T. Bazemore, Keith K. Bazemore, and DaShawn E. Brown.

Great-Grandchildren: Nelphia L. Pettway, Bennie J. Pettway III, Jasmine D. Staton, Jalin A. Gordon, Teon J. Long, Takiyah M. Gregor, Jalen J. Foskey, Jalin S. Long, Taylor Willis, Jayden D. E. Baker, Alexandria Bazemore,

Amaya L. Staton, Ajanay Bazemore, Avianna Hankerson, and D’Asia A. Gibson

Great-Great Grandchildren: Bennie J. Pettway IV, Tabias A. Pettway, and J’Ya Ali Boone

Margaret also leaves cousin, Claudia M. Shoulders of Rich Square, NC amongst a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom are also considered family.
