Bessie B. Davis gained her wings and flew into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Riverside Hospital. She was born September 9, 1937 to the late Ernest and Bessie Brown. She is predeceased by her husband Emmett Davis, Sr., son Emmett Davis, Jr., a stepson, Emmett Johnson, three sisters; Ethel Rowls, Doretha Brown, Ernestine Davis, three brothers; David Brown, Leroy Brown, and Elbrich Brown.
Bessie loved her family, there wasn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for them. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. Her family referred to her as the Queen because she was the backbone of the family. She enjoyed cooking, reading, watching British TV shows, and giving advice even if you didn’t ask for it. Everything she did was out of love, that’s why so many called her mom or auntie. Bessie worked at Portsmouth General Hospital in the kitchen and then later became a CNA. But her greatest achievement was raising seven children and a couple of grandchildren along the way.
She leaves to cherish her memories: four sons; Ricky Davis, Chico Davis, Quenton Davis, and Brian Davis, all of Suffolk. She also leaves two daughters; Cortis Davis-Williams of Suffolk, Juliet May of Chesapeake, and a stepdaughter; Elsie Brown of Portsmouth. She leaves 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, three nieces; Brenda Peebles, Pamela Polk, and Francis Copeland, all of Portsmouth, and a host of extended family and friends. |
