Vernetta M. Washington

Vernetta M. Washington was called by her heavenly Father on September 23, 2018.  She was predeceased by her husband Roy Lee Washington, grandmother Mrs. Lillie Everette; her mother Mrs. Ruth Everette Kittrell, brother John Milton Childers, sister Syrevera Diane Stephens, brother James Kittrell, brother Joseph Kittrell, and sister Deborah Selfridge.  She grew up in the Truxton area and graduated from Portsmouth School System.

 Vernetta was once the owner and operator of Bargains Unlimited at George Washington Mini Mall, and owner of V’Marie’s Boutique on Victory Blvd.  She was once employed by ITW South Land in Virginia Beach, VA.  She was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church since rejoining in 1979, where she was a member of the United Voices #2 Choir, Senior Missionary Ministry and a Child of the King.

 She leaves to cherish her memory: three daughters, Arlene Livingston, Vernetta Livingston Campbell (Brian), Pamela Harris; son, Omar K. Washington; 8 grandchildren, James K. Smith Jr., Ariel Smith, Phylena Livingston, Kema Washington, Omar Butler, Jon Campbell, Javon Campbell, and Brian Shotwell; 7 great grandchildren, Brooklyn Smith, James Smith III, Brandyn Smith, Aaliah Ramseur, Brielle Smith, Amari Farmer, and Emory Smith; her father, Vernon Crump Jr.; sisters and brothers, Carolyn Kittrell, Mary Walden, Tony Childers, Marvin Childers, Levoid Kittrell, Elvis Kittrell, Deborah Goodrich, Robin Nottingham, and Vernon Crump III; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

 Viewing will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 from 12 Noon to 8 pm at Corprew Funeral Home, and the family will also receive friends from 6 pm to 7 pm.  A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018, 11 am at St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, 2714 Frederick Blvd., Portsmouth, VA  23704.  Bishop Curtis E. Edmonds Sr. officiating.  Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, VA.
