Elder Saundra Ann Bracy, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and cousin transitioned from our sight to the Lord’s arms, along with her son Jarrod N. Bracy, on June 13, 2018. She was born on January 15, 1947 to the late Margarette L. Gatling Shepard and William Bracy.
After graduating from I.C. Norcom in 1965, Saundra joined the United States Womens Army Corps. She received the rank of Staff Sergeant after 10 years of service, where she returned to Portsmouth to work for Department of the Navy before retiring with 40 years of combined government service.
Left to mourn her passing are: her daughter, Chandra Bracy; grandson, Jerryl Bracy; brother, Barry Shepard (Linda Phillips); sisters, V. Elayne Thompson and Beatrice Mantle (Brian); aunts, Dorothy Johnson, Beulah Ballard and a sister of the heart, Marion Hardie; two nieces, Latoya McLean and Aisha Shepard; along with a host of cousins, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018, 1 pm at New First Baptist Church Taylorsville, 2720 Turnpike Road, Portsmouth, VA 23707. Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.
