On May 18, 2018, our Heavenly Father called our beloved, Dewey Washington Bryant Jr. to eternal rest. He was born to the late Dewey Washington Bryant Sr. and Henrietta Brown Bryant in Vicksburg, Mississippi. After completing his education in Vicksburg, his parents relocated to White Plains, NY. He was employed by the New York Transit System where he retired in 1995 with six perfect Driving Awards. In 1963, he married Emma Rodwell and lived in NY where they reared their children, after which they moved to Portsmouth, VA. He joined Noble Street Baptist Church in 1995 where he served as a Bus Driver and as a Male Chorus member. He was predeceased by his wife, Emma Bryant. He leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter, Linda Bryant-Rochelle of New Bern, NC; one son, Andrew Bryant (Michelle) of Birmingham, AL; three sisters, Faye Bastian of Melbourne, FL, Joan Mitchell of Edison, NJ, Chettra Bryant of Edison, NJ; grandchildren, Tyrone Bryant (Crystal), Tamika Johnson Cooks (Darrin), Michelle Johnson, Deja Bryant, Norris Rochelle, Sharda’ Coot; great-grandchildren, Meshaie McNair, Ravorn and Rameir Johnson, Jessiah Johnson, Quinten Bryant, Samaya Johnson, Mar’Quae Carmon, Desmond Bryant, Toni Coot, Diara Geralds, Dalia Geralds, Eric Von Hendrix, Tonya Majors and Maisha Mitchell. Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018, from 12 noon to 8 pm at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018, 10 am at Noble Street Baptist Church, 100 Noble Street, Portsmouth, Virginia 23702. Interment will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Portsmouth. |
