Alexandria Wellington Scarborough, “Addie Mae Boykins,” 85, was called home on Thursday, May 3, 2018. Addie Mae was born on June 15, 1932 in the Hadenville section of Norfolk County to the late Mamie Foster and Clarence Boykins. She completed up to the 10th grade in Norfolk County Public Schools. She then married James Ward and upon that union had 10 children before divorcing. For several years, Addie Mae was a bus driver for Suffolk Public Schools. She also did private nursing for years. She loved to sing gospel music and play the piano at Union Bethel Holiness Church in Portsmouth. She dedicated her time to raising her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Jane P. Ward-Elliott, oldest son, Robert Wayne Ward, granddaughter, Andrea “Cookie” Hill, and grandson, Jonathan A. Ward. Addie Mae leaves to cherish her memories: 8 children, James P. Ward, Ronald Ward, Adrienne Macklin, Laurence Ward, Angela Ward, Katheryn King, Shelia Ward, and Sharon Hill; 13 grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren and cousins. A wake will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 6 pm to 7 pm and the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, 11 am at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23704. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Rd., Suffolk, VA 23435. |
