Russell Copeland

Russell Copeland, 89, departed this life on April 23, 2018.  He was born on December 2, 1928 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Russell Copeland and Willie Mae Copeland.  Russell was a graduate of I.C. Norcom High School, Portsmouth and  a member of Third Baptist Church in Portsmouth.

He was a member of the I.C. Norcom Alumni Association; member of American Legion Post 190 (Portsmouth, VA);  and member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 27 (Portsmouth, VA).

Russell was a US Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War and receiving the Purple Heart Medal.  He retired after 30 years at Norfolk Naval Base and retired after 10 years at Mount Herman Senior Living Community.

Russell’s favorite moments were attending I.C. Norcom High School sporting events, mingling with friends at American Legion Post 190 and DAV #27, and community outings.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Kathleen Copeland; children, September Nickens, Keona Folston, and Derrick Brown; grandchildren, Lloyd Caldwell, Jalyn Folston (Eric), Jayda Folston, and Tyson Brown; cousins and longtime friends.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018, 10 am at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA  23704.  Interment will be held at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Rd., Suffolk, VA  23434.  Viewing will be held on Thursday, from 12 noon to 8 pm and the family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm at the funeral home.
