Barbara J. McCracken

Barbara Jean McCracken was called home on “Ressurection” Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Carrington Place Nursing Facility in Chesapeake, VA after a short battle with cancer.

 Barbara was born on March 20, 1949 in North Carolina.  She later moved to the Cavalier Manor area of Portsmouth, VA.  Graduating from I.C. Norcom High School in 1966, she would soon follow her dreams of modeling and moved to New York City.  In July 1976, she gave birth to her one and only son, Vincent L. Treston.

 She finished her works in New York in 1994, with 19 years of service with CNA Insurance as a claims adjuster, only to return back to Virginia to care for her mother and sister who were battling their own illnesses.

 Barbara was a self-less, beautiful, hardworking woman who always put others before herself.  Though she was “MOMMY” to only one, she was MOTHER to many.  Barbara was the baby of 5 brothers and sisters.

 Her favorite room was the kitchen, for she loved cooking.  Her home was always filled with love and laughter.

 She leaves behind only to finish her works, her son, Vincent Treston; 2 grandchildren, Terence and Vinessa Treston; daughter-in-law, Kizzy V. Treston; brother, Joseph W. Garris; nephews, Jonas Pope, Nicky Garris and Nigel Garris; and a host of others.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 10, 2018, 1 pm at The Village Church of Portsmouth, 900 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA  23704.
