Eunice Majette Norcom, 84, longtime resident of the 4000 block of Sun Valley
Crescent, Chesapeake, VA died January 27, 2018, in First Colony Health and
Rehabilitation Center, Missouri City, TX. Born in Rich Square, North Carolina, she
was the last of seven children born to Everette V. Majette Sr. and Maggie Hardy
Majette. The family moved to Portsmouth Virginia in the early 1940’s. Eunice
attended Portsmouth Public Schools from grades 2 through 12, a graduate of
I.C. Norcom High School class of 1952, she was a graduate of Virginia State
University (College) class of 1956 BS., Hampton University Masters of Guidance and
Counseling. She was an active member of St. James Episcopal Church and retired
from the Portsmouth Public school System in the field of Guidance and Counseling
after 31 years of service. Eunice was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and other social
groups.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James G. Norcom Jr., four brothers
(Henry, Joe, Cleveland, Everette Jr.) two sisters (Katherine, Sarah).
Survivors include, son, James G. Norcom III, daughter-in-law (Marlene H.), two
granddaughters, Chelsea and Sydney Norcom, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at St. James
Episcopal Church, Portsmouth, with Father Frederick Walker officiating. Interment
will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23704, will begin at 12 Noon to 8 pm Monday, February 5, 2018. The family will be at the funeral home for the Alpha Kappa Alpha organizational service 6:30 to 7 pm.
The body will be at St James Church at 10 am Tuesday February 6, 2018.
