Lenora B. Alvin

Lenora Alvin, age 82, passed away peacefully at her Portsmouth home on Thursday, January 11, 2018. She was born on Dec. 13, 1935, in Laurinburg, N.C., to John and Sadie Benton. Her family moved to Norfolk. She married Bonnie Alvin in 1957. They each had children from previous marriages. They moved to Portsmouth in 1964, and joined the Community Presbyterian Church. Lenora sang in the choir, and also served on various church committees. Survived to cherish her memory are her loving husband, children and stepchildren, including John McCall (Martese), Bonnie E. Alvin III (Diane), Dwight McCall (Vanessa), Gloria Humphrey (Charles), Nathan McCall (Paula), Walter Alvin, Evangeline Dozier (Wilbert), Carol Tabron, Peggy Coakley (James). Lenora was pre-deceased by one son, Bryan Alvin. She is also survived by several grandchildren, and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A wake will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 from 6-8 pm, at Corprew Funeral Home, at 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, Va., 23704. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at 11 am at the Community Presbyterian Church, at 801 Tazewell St., Portsmouth, Va., 23701. Burial will follow at Roosevelt Memorial Park, at 1101 Campostella Rd., Chesapeake, Va., 23320. There will be a repast at the church immediately following.
