Byron H. Cassell

Byron H. Cassell, “Goon,” 81, departed this life on May 26, 2017.  He was born in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Theodore Sr. and Iola Hayes Cassell.  He retired from Portsmouth Parks and Recreation after 28 years of service.  Byron was a U.S. Navy Veteran.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, and one brother.

He is survived by: five daughters; two sons; eleven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ernestine Cassell; one aunt, Thayanne Hayes; two nieces; one nephew; a host of cousins and friends.

Special thanks to the staff of Sentara Nursing Center of Portsmouth for the care shown to Byron.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 12 Noon to 8 pm at the funeral home.  A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017, 9 am, at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA  23434.
