Jerome Moody crossed the bar from earth to glory, April 26, 2017. He was born in Emporia, VA to the late George and Daisy Moody. He later moved to Portsmouth, VA where he received his early education. Like his parents, Jerome was anointed with an entrepreneurial spirit. As a young man, he drove the delivery truck for Lee Gary’s Cleaners and vowed that one day he would grow up to operate his own dry cleaners, which came true exactly as planned. Jerome owned and operated Dondi’s Dry Cleaners in Bronx, New York for thirty years, and he was often affectionately referred to as the other George Jefferson. After his retirement, Jerome returned home to his beloved Portsmouth where he continued his education and went on to complete his BS degree at Norfolk State University. He became a committed community activist and established a fond relationship with Noble Street Baptist Church. He worked faithfully with the Wilson Ward Civic League. He is survived by a son, Jay Moody; granddaughter, Brianna Wright; brother, George Moody; three sisters, Barbara Cure, Daisy Lee and Veronica Johnson. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Staton Wright. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, from 12 Noon to 8 pm.
