Horace V. Bland

On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, after a long illness, our son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, Horace Victor Bland was called to his eternal rest.  On April 6, 1960, Horace was born to the late Horace Bland and Shirley Bland in Portsmouth, Virginia.  He was the last of five sons born to that union.  Horace attended the Portsmouth Public School System.  He was affectionately called “Base” by friends and loved ones.

Victor will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, his attentiveness to the children of the family.  He was always willing to be a handyman if needed.

Victor was predeceased by his father, Horace Bland and his brother Wayne Jerome “Joe” Bland.

He leaves to cherish his memory, two sons, Tevin Bland and Marquee Spruill; his mother, Shirley Bland; a sister, Joyce (Ernest); four brothers, Frederick (Barbara), Broderick (Wanda), Morris, and Charles (Olivia); a grandson, Marquee Spruill, Jr.; a loving aunt, Barbara Newsome, a faithful former spouse, Renita Bland, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016, 12 Noon at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 3310 Deep Creek Blvd., Portsmouth, VA  23702.  Interment to follow at Olive Branch Cemetery.  Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday, November 11, 2016 from 12 Noon to 8 pm.
