Willie E. Stevenson

Willie E. Stevenson was called home on Saturday, October 22, 2016.  He was the son of the late Douglas and Mary Stevenson.  Willie was born in Portsmouth, VA and attended Portsmouth Public Schools.

He retired from the United States Navy and Norfolk Naval Shipyard with twenty years of service.  He was baptized at an early age by the late Pastor Edward W. Davidson.  He was an active member of the Male Chorus, Cottage Prayer Band and the Crossbearer Missionaries.

Willie was a devoted husband, loving and caring man of God, he loved talking and helping people no matter where he went.  He always had an encouraging word and a beautiful smile.  He was a fun person to be around.  Everyone who knew him loved him.

He was predeceased in death by his brothers Freddie, Earnest and Douglas Stevenson Jr.; one sister Julia Martin.  Willie leaves to cherish his memory; his wife of sixty years, Evangelist Virginia Stevenson, one goddaughter Paulette B. Boyd (John), one sister Deaconess Mattie V. Smith (Delbert); grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, 11 am at Noble Street Baptist Church, 100 Noble Street, Portsmouth, VA  23702.  Interment with military honors will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, VA.
