One June 16, 2016 Evelyn Virginia Johnson fell asleep in death. She was born on January 14, 1932 in Nansemond Co., Virginia to the late McKinley and Mary Frances Paige. She was affectionately known as “Momma,” “Grandma,” and “EL.” Evelyn was a very good seamstress, enjoyed traveling, was known for cooking “rice pudding” etc., gardening and loved entertaining. She was multi-talented and was always willing to help. She loved her children, grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren. Her real passion was her full time ministry work which she spent over 26 years serving on as a full time Pioneer, preaching about God’s kingdom in the Midtown Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness in Portsmouth, VA where she loved and was loved and will greatly be missed by all. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis Johnson Sr.; four children, Dorothy Ellis, Delilah Fagan, Vanessa Morgan and Larry Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories: seven children, Frank Paige (LaVerne) of VA Beach, VA, Gloria Scott of Hartford, CT, Sharon D. Johnson of Portsmouth, VA, Ellis Johnson (Eva) of Portsmouth, VA, Jackie Lee of St. Augustine, FL, Phillis Johnson of Portsmouth, VA, and Laverne Johnson of Norfolk, VA; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren; two sisters, Luberta Scott and Alma; and a host of relatives and best friends. Evelyn had a deep love of reading the bible. A scripture dear to her was Revelations 21:1-3 “He will wipe out every tear from their eyes and death will be no more.” Soon we will be realizing this promise with her for eternity. She will be looking for us and she will say “Oh my lands!” Viewing will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 from 12 Noon to 8 pm at Corprew Funeral Home. A memorial service will be on Saturday, June 25, 2016, 2 pm at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness, 2050 Elliott Avenue, Portsmouth, VA 23701. |
