Mother Mary Carruth
Mary Clyde James Carruth was escorted into eternal rest on Monday morning, August
7, 2023 at Maryview Hospital. She was the wife of Bishop Samuel L. Carruth, and was
the co-founder of Holy Light Church of Deliverance, established in 1967. Mother
Carruth, as she was lovingly known, served in a myriad of aspects in ministry,
compelling souls to Christ. Words cannot convey how intently and effective her labor of
love was, how greatly it was received, and how it has impacted the church and
generations of people.
Her oldest daughter, Linda C. Blake and her oldest grandson, Samuel I. Blake preceded
her in death.
She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories: her beloved and faithful husband, Bishop
Samuel Carruth, 69 years of blissful marriage. She also leaves to mourn three (3)
daughters: Ms. Fayette Alston, Pastor Dorene Norris (Deacon Robert), Elder Shorron
Vinson (Deacon Noel), a special niece and nephew, Claudia Thompson (Hiram) and
William Carruth (Karen); eight grandchildren: Shaconda Peterson (James), Andrea
Newsome (Pastor Antonio), Cherie Alston, Roderick Blake (DeAntwoinette), Raynard
Norris, Travis Sessoms (Maiya), Jayden Vinson and Jada Vinson; a special great niece
and nephew: DeShira Thompson and Bryant Thompson; five great grandchildren:
Geramiah Newsome, Keymaure Harris, Jeslyn Peterson, Adina Sessoms, and Travis
Sessoms, Jr.; and one (1) great-great grandchild, Ivy Newsome. She also had a loving
relationship with Anya Simmons and Nicole Foster
