In Loving Memory of
Daniel Leon Tolliver
On Monday, April 3, 2023, our beloved Daniel Leon Tolliver departed this earthly life to be
home with our precious Lord. Daniel affectionately known as “Dan” or “Danny,” was the youngest
of seven children born on April 7, 1960 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Joseph Tolliver Sr. and Geneva Tolliver.
Dan was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System and graduated from Churchland High School in 1978. After high school, Dan completed 2 years of
college at Norfolk State University where he was proud to say “Behold the Green & Gold.”
After college Dan worked as an insulator for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. Dan pursued his culinary career working for Darlin Bakery and Providence
Place of Bon Secours.
Dan had the biggest heart and the most beautiful smile. He was full of life, loved to joke, and
talk smack to anyone who would listen especially while playing spades, horseshoes, or watching his
beloved Indianapolis Colts outscore their opponent. Dan loved to watch karate and action movies. He loved
to cook, watch the Lakers, and attend family cookouts. Dan was most passionate about family and helping others.
Dan attended Grove Baptist Church in his youth where both of his parents served in the
ministry. His faith, knowledge, and the love for God would lead him to become a member of Living
Word Ministry in 2012, where he would be known as “Uncle Dan” the church uncle.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Joseph & Geneva Tolliver, sister Sarah Anderson,
and brother William Tolliver.
Dan leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Mary Tolliver; step-children Danny
Minggia (Niya), Daryle Minggia (Angie), Danika Minggia; grandchildren Danyale, Deandre,
Dayonce’, Daniel Jr., Danaisa, Deaira, Darrel, Dimitri, Brian; great-grandchildren Daylin;
siblings Joseph Tolliver Jr. (Doris), Vernon Tolliver (Peola), Thelma Tolliver, Ervin Tolliver; and a
host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
