Vera Brittle was born to the late Sylvester Walker and Helen (Britt) Walker Wooten on January 21, 1943, in Portsmouth, VA.
She will long be remembered by many, but most fondly by her daughter-Michele (Michael) Daye and her son Isaiah Brittle, Jr. She had three sisters-Marion Willingham, Joan Willie who preceded her in death, and Ethel Walker. She also had a brother who preceded her in death, Sylvester Walker, Jr. She will be truly missed by her six grandchildren: Antonio (Eleanor) Brittle, Sr. (Her Poon Poon man), Shanteè (LaBryant) Sharps, Tabitha (Curtis) Daye, RhonNeika Simms, Nicole, Ayisha, and Ebony and Brianna Brittle, and 14great-grandchildren-Adiana, Antonio Jr., Ahmahry, Alani, Amyah, Amir and Nevaeh Brittle; Zachary Dix, Mikayla and Zaniyah Sharps; Jaden, Duronte; Christian Simms; and Sir Miles. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vera was a long-standing member of New Mt. Olivet Baptist Church attending services faithfully until her health failed her and also served on the usher board.
Vera was educated in Portsmouth Public Schools, attending I. C. Norcom High School prior to relocating to live in Philadelphia, PA. Later in life she graduated from Kee Business College for Accounting. After leaving NEX, she continued completing taxes for many Portsmouth residents until her health started to fail.
She had a beautiful smile to compliment her humble and kind spirit. She was well known and loved! Vera enjoyed getting together with her family where she would cook some of the best food. Many of Vera’s loved ones will hold dear memories of special times with her. Vera will be remembered and loved forever. |
