Carmen G Caldwell (Williams), daughter of the late Egbert Brentley Williams and Florida Ponce De Leon, born on 10 August 1922 in Ybor City, Tampa Florida. The family later moved to Brooklyn New York. She was the forth of seven children born to Egbert and Florida Williams. Carmen Caldwell 93, at home at 2017 Elm Ave , Portsmouth VA, was called to eternal rest surrounded by her family and loved ones on 05 Feb 2016.
Carmen is predeceased by her loving late husband Johnnie Caldwell of Orangeburg South Carolina, her sisters Bernice Jackson, Helen Williams and brothers Egbert Jr, Ormond, Jose and Oliver Williams. She is survived by two sisters Margret Charles and Anne Ethel Beazer, five children; John Caldwell, Christine Freeman, Bryan Caldwell, (Lizzie), Deborah Little and Jill Barrows, several great grandchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Carmen Caldwell was a life long member of St. James Episcopal Church on Effingham St in the city of Portsmouth VA. She committed over 25 years of Volunteer Services to the Elderly of St James and other Adult Care facilities in the city of Portsmouth during her earlier life and received many honors throughout the 1970’s 80’s and 90’s for her services to the elderly. She was a loving home care provider to her family while her husband Johnnie served and protected his country in three world conflicts.
Viewing will be at Corprew Funeral Home on Portsmouth Blvd on Thursday 11 Feb from 12 until. Funeral Services will be held on Friday on 12 February 2016, at 10 am at St. James Episcopal Church, 928 Effingham St in the city of Portsmouth VA. Interment will follow at Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk VA at 12:00 noon.
