Lena’s Story April 12, 1953 – October 4, 2022
This is the story of Lena Yvonne Watson. Lena was a wonderful woman that was loved, is missed, and will always be cherished. Lena was an amazing wife, mom, daughter, grandma, sister, cousin and friend.
Lena’s story starts on April 12, 1953, in Williamston, NC. She was born to Hattie Hodges-Dixon and the late Solomon Hodges. In 1963, Lena’s family relocated to Portsmouth, VA where she met the love of her life, Ronald “Peter” Watson.
Lena leaves to cherish her husband Ronald Watson, Sr. of 51 years, three children, Dawn (Alex), LaVonda “Bunny” (special friend Six) and Ronald Jr. (special friend Felisha), three grandchildren Te’Quan, Faith and Layla, her mother Hattie Hodges-Dixon, 6 siblings, Lucy Smith (Ronald), Solomon Hodges (Nita), Michael Hodges (Joan), Rudena Cutchember, Betsy Hodges, Ervin Hodges, goddaughter Tinera Faulcon, bonus granddaughter Kristina Hawkins and a host of family and friends.
Lena was a loving devoted daycare provider who touched many lives along her way. She loved everyone she came in contact with. Lena was a giver and she gave from and with her heart. Lena wrote several children’s books to include: The Why Book, Where is Charlie and Noise In My Room which she was very proud to accomplish. She was a prayer warrior and loved the Lord with all her heart.
Lena’s grandchildren were her heart and joy. She was known by her grandchildren as “Grandma”, “Cheetah Girl” and “Girlfriend”. Lena was a family woman who loved her family and loved to spend time laughing, playing, joking and talking about Jesus. Her famous quotes were “The devil is a liar, he can go to the pit of hell” and “God is Good All the Time and All the Time God is Good”. Lena will be missed by many but she will never be forgotten.
