Beulah Mae Harris

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

On August 31, 2022, our beloved Beulah Mae Harris entered into the arms of the Lord Jesus Christ whom she loved. She laid aside all of her burdens and received her crown of righteousness.

Beulah was born September 5, 1942 in Darlington, South Carolina to the late Fred and Lizzie Howard. She was educated in Darlington County Public Schools where she received her high school diploma from Spaulding High School. After graduation, she relocated to Washington, D.C with her brother. While there, she found her life’s passion of caring for others.

Beulah worked as a companion aide in various hospitals and home health settings where she provided loving care to everyone that she encountered. She was dedicated and very conscientious in serving her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion.

Beulah loved everyone; her compassionate spirit led her to Brooklyn, New York, where she met the love of her life, the late Thomas Earl Harris, and they were united in holy matrimony on October 24, 1964. This union produced one son, Tommy.

At an early age, Beulah Harris was baptized at St. Mark Baptist Church in South Carolina. At St. Mark, she served as an usher and sang in the choir. Upon relocating to Virginia with her family she joined Noble Street Baptist Church.

Beulah was a dedicated Sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and a loyal friend. She treasured her son and grandchildren. She embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as “Big Grandma” to her great-grandson, Makhai.

Beulah had a vivacious personality and always made people around her laugh. She made friends everywhere she went. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Thomas Earl Harris; four brothers, James Foster, Henry Foster, Fred Douglas Howard, and Gay Burney Howard; and two sisters, Mary Holloway, and Donella Munford.

Those who will forever cherish fond memories are: Her son, Tommy Harris (Jacqueline) of Portsmouth, Virginia; Three granddaughters, Tommesha, Tommarah, and Tamia Harris of Portsmouth VA, and one grandson, Lamar Adkins of Columbia, SC. Two brothers, Cleveland Howard of Jamaica, New York, and Edward Foster of Mebane, North Carolina; two sisters, Gladys Brown of Darlington, South Carolina, and Lizzie Harris (Lorenzo) of Jamaica, New York. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
