Mr. James E. Carr was born on March 4, 1954, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Patricia Carr-Shepherd and George Martin. He transitioned to eternal rest on August 4, 2022.
He received his formal education in the public schools of Cleveland, Ohio.
He entered into the U.S. Navy in April 1972. After completing basic training, he was assigned to the U.S.S. Saratoga CV-60 and went on to serve two tours of duty in Vietnam. After he completed his tour of duty in the Navy, he was employed by the Federal government as a Supervisory Fuel Distribution Specialist. He worked for Craney Island Fuel Depot located in Portsmouth, Virginia for 25 years. His job was outsourced and he was relocated to Patuxent River Naval Base in September 1999, to complete his federal government career of 10 years. He retired on August 3rd, 2017, with 42 years of government service.
James was preceded by his parents Patricia Shepherd and George Martin, a brother, Patrick Carr and Sister, Kitty Martin.
He leaves to cherish his wife of 48 years, Carol Rockett Carr, two sons, James Deangelo Carr (Shanika), Ryant Lamar Carr (Lucrecia), three Granddaughters, JaShayla Morgan (Stephen), Dejah Carr and Janae Carr, and three great grandchildren Stephen, Sienna-James and Sevyn Morgan. Two Sisters, Mildred Chavis (Paul), and Toni Martin. Four brothers, Bryan Shephered (Regina), George Martin, Scotty Martin, and Rufus Martin. Special aunts, Miriam Bernice Carr and Esther Anderson. Special cousins, Charles Carr, Tyrone Carr, Elaine Carr, Jerome Carr, Gary Martin, Glenn Martin, June Martin, Michael Turner, Jeffery Turner, and Patricia Chatman. Special childhood friend, Lorretta Winstead. He leaves to cherish a host of relatives and friends.
Big James, also known as Papuli by his beloved granddaughters, was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and brother-in-law.
Big James was a man of God and a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church. He was a gentle giant and a man of integrity. Big James was the family comedian; it was hard not to laugh with him around. He was a man of style and always dressed to impress. Big James had a passion for building and refurbishing furniture for around the house. He built and refurbished numerous pieces of furniture for his family. He truly was a jack of all trades.
He was a family man and an awesome provider. He had a heart of gold and was loved by many. His precious memories will be forever cherished by his entire family. Big James may be gone but his beautiful spirit will forever be in our hearts. |
