Our beloved brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, Roy Brown Cook, Jr., affectionally known as Bug, was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 9th, 2022, just shy of his 71st birthday. He was born on August 11, 1951, in Winston-Salem, North, Carolina to the late Betty Jean Holland Cook Hines and the Late Roy Brown Cook.
Roy resided in Winston-Salem until age 14 when he relocated with the family to Boston, Massachusetts. As a teenager he moved to Chesapeake, Virginia and graduated from Indian River High School.
A lover of music, especially soul music in the 60s and soft listening music in his older years. He was highly creative, and in his youth enjoyed dancing. His favorite past time was listening to music and watching sports. His favorite teams were the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys, and sometimes the New England Patriots when they were not playing against his favorite teams. He also enjoyed watching basketball, in particular the Boston Celtics.
Roy was an optimistic person and appreciated the simple things of life. He had a humble spirit and took great pride in his home and appearance. He was highly intelligent, a deep reflective thinker, and attuned to current events and politics. Roy was a loving, kind person, who always had a lot of friends. He resided at Governor’s Pointe in Chesapeake for over 30 years where he developed close relationships. It was a tight knit community. Together they talked, laughed, supported and helped each other. Roy was deeply respected and appreciated by all who knew him. He will truly be missed.
Roy was preceded in death by his father, Roy Brown Cook; his mother Betty Jean Holland Cook Hines and his stepfather Murray Lee Hines. He is survived by his biological siblings Roy Tyrone Scales, R. Lee Cook (Sally), Rovia E. Cook and Robin L. Cook-Nobles (Maurice) and many step-siblings, along with an array of nieces and nephews, as well as an extended family of cousins and a great aunt, Sarah Austin.
