On Wednesday, January 5, 2022, Oris Lorraine Armstrong, was called to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was born May 18, 1929, in Ahoskie, NC, to the late Rida B. Askew Moore and Charlie Moore.
Oris was an Educator for the Chesapeake City Schools and retired in 1991 after 30 years of service. She graduated from North Carolina College at Durham now known as North Carolina Central University with a Bachelor of Science Degree-Cum Laude. She was also an Old Dominion University graduate studying in Special Education. Oris received many awards including Outstanding Educator 1974, Teacher of the Year Award 1982 and Chesapeake Retired Teachers Association 2010 Scholarship honoree. She also owned a Consignment Shop and earned the “Our Place” award in business for 4 years. She was an Historian/Author of the published book: Remembering Yesterday in 2020; 53 years Tracing Luke Ward Moore Genealogy.
Oris was baptized at New Bethany Missionary Baptist Church, Harrellsville, NC, and was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church Suffolk, VA, where she served as a Senior Choir member, Sunday School Assistant Superintendent, and Hospitality Committee Chairperson. She was also a member of Fullview Baptist Church Memphis, TN and was on the Mother Board.
She is preceded in death by her parents-Rida B. Askew Moore and Charlie Moore; her husband-Peter Armstrong; two sisters-Ida Pearl Singleton and Fannie Askew; and one brother-Charlie Lionel Moore.
Oris leaves to cherish her daughters-Katherine McMullen (Havie) of Millington, TN and Cynthia King of Memphis, TN; two grandchildren-Amirah King of Memphis, TN and Glynnis King of Memphis, TN; Anna Laura Hall of Ahoskie, NC, Calvin Moore (Evelyn) of Newport News, VA; Melinda Washington (James) of Ahoskie, NC, Cleveland Hall of Suffolk, VA, Corey Hall (Penny) of Seaford, DE, Magurtha White of Freeman, VA and a host of other relatives and friends. |
