Lacy L. McDowell Jr., 78, entered into rest on Friday, January 14, 2022, at Maryview Medical Center after a short illness.
He was born on February 19, 1943, in Portsmouth, VA, the youngest son of the late Lacy and Blanche (Smith) McDowell. He attended school in the Portsmouth Public School System and graduated from I.C. Norcom High School in 1961. Following high school graduation, Lacy enlisted in the United States Army and served his country. After his military service, Lacy had a diverse and rewarding career. His last job was with Howell’s Motor Freight, Inc. where he worked for 29 years, and retired in 2009.
His favorite pastimes were music, photography, videography, and spending quality time with friends and family.
He is survived by his best friend of over forty-five years, Ronald Barnes; his sister-in-law Jeanne McDowell of Rome, NY; his nephew Craig McDowell of Liverpool, NY; his niece and nephew-in-law Dr. Christi and Herman Patterson of Frederick, MD; and his grand-niece Caressa Patterson. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Eugene McDowell; his sister, Lillian McDowell; and his brother, Leon McDowell. In addition to family, Lacy leaves to cherish his memory dear neighbors Claudia and Steven, Jermain L. Emerson, Sr., Jimmy “Red” Bowser, and a host of friends. |
