Our beloved God peacefully sent his angel down from the heavens above to call upon our loved one, Imani Sekou Gregory, on Sunday, November 14, 2021, to enter his eternal resting place. Imani was born on May 4, 1978, to his mother, Cheryl Roberts and the late Lester Johnson and was respectfully raised by his stepfather, James Roberts, Jr. He had grown to be a smart, intelligent, loving, stronghearted young man who loved to tell jokes and debate. He had a contagious smile and a big heart and was a smooth talker.
Imani was educated as a child in several locations including Georgia, Texas, and Germany due to military travel. As a teenager, he attended Northwest High School in Clarksville, TN and later moved to Virginia with his grandparents, the late Claude Gregory and Ethel Gregory, to finish his education at Portsmouth Christian Academy in Portsmouth, VA, where he played basketball. Imani was a genius in all subjects, but Math was his favorite. He also loved sports as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bulls were his favorite teams.
Imani accepted a position with Fincanteri Marine Systems in 2014 as a Warehouse Associate and later became an Assistant Project Manager in 2020 where he continued out his career.
Imani Sekou Gregory leaves to cherish in his memory his wife, Nicole Sarley-Gregory; his five children whom he loved dearly-Aaliyah (Lee Lee), Imani, Jr. (Lil’ E), Khari (Rii), Imani (Mahzi), and A’Mhari (Che); his four stepchildren-TayShaun, Alexis, Michael, and Malik.
He leaves his mother, Cheryl Roberts, father James Roberts, Jr., two grandmothers-Ethel Gregory and Barnease Roberts, one sister-Mich’e Walton four brothers-Derrick Vaughn, Shawn Franklin, Johnell Jones, and Tio Brooks; one brother-in-law, Donzel Walton (Ziggy), two sister-in-laws, Latesha Sarley and Princess Sarley; one godson-Nolan Powell; and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
