On Monday, August 26, 2019, at approximately 4:00 p. m., God called by name Zeb High Jr. aka “Zeke” to rest while he lay quietly in bed.

Zeb was born on January 18, 1955 to the late Zeb and Marcella High Sr. of Portsmouth Virginia. He was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System and later attended Tidewater Community College. As an adult, Zeb joined the United States Army in the mid 70’s and after his tour of duty he began his career with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Pipefitter in Shop 07 for many years. He also held employment at the Portsmouth Lumber Company as driver until his health began to fail.

In the community, Zeb was loved by many for he was friendly, kind hearted, and funny. Wherever the crowd was you were sure to find “Zeke”.  As he lived his life, he found the need to know God and joined Miracle Fellowship Church to receive spiritual guidance. With time and spiritual growth, he was appointed to Deacon. Zeb was a member that loved to pray and was very dependable. Unless Zeke was ill on Sunday morning he was dressed and in the House of God.

Zeb is predeceased by two sisters, Oza Marie Gilmore and Cynthia Williemena White. He leaves to cherish his memory Teresa A. Miller, four children Nikevia Gilmore of North Carolina, Eva and Zeke Miller of Portsmouth, VA, and Tara Williams of Chesapeake. Two sisters, Phyllis Peele (Cornelius), and Angeline Styles both of Portsmouth; four brothers Jonathan, Samuel, and Desmond High all of Portsmouth, VA and Barry High of Boston, MA.

He is “Pops” to three nephews David (Fort Leonwood Missouri), Daquan (Japan) Darell Miller, and one niece Bernadette who he raised as his own. Zeb has eleven grandchildren, Zekhi, Zeke, and Zeb (Lil Zeke’s kids), and Khalil, Kyjuan, Kemonte, Kyahna, Kalani, and Kassidy (Nikevia’s kids). Tara Williams also has a son and a daughter. He has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that will truly miss him.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 11 am at Ministry In Christ church. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton Cemetery.
