Winfred R. Griffin was born on August 31, 1950 to the late Winfred S. Griffin and the late Gertha Lee Carroll Griffin. He was called home to eternal rest on September 1, 2020.
He was educated in the Portsmouth School System and then went on to serve in the United States Army. After his military service, he worked at General Electric for several years and National Welders. “Randy” as he is known to those around him, was an avid pool player and loved to work with electronics and people in the neighborhood would always call on him to install their equipment. He also had a very extensive collection of scale model cars and trains and enjoyed putting them together in his spare time.
He accepted Christ at an early age where he joined Noble Street Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter; Teresa Lee Roberts; four grandchildren; Larentisha Roberts, Quadre Williams, L‘chris Roberts, and Stennette Watson of Richmond, Virginia; one sister, Malvinia Mutts; three brothers, William L. Griffin and Waverly L. Griffin of Portsmouth, Virginia and Arizander E. Griffin of Manhattan, New York; seven aunts, Mary Scoon, Doris Linton, Leona Taylor, Jean Johnson and Mary Carroll of Elizabeth City, North Carolina and Evola Pope of Portsmouth, Virginia; two uncles, McRay Griffin (Gladys) and McClease Griffin of Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
Also left to cherish his memory are a host of nephews, niece, cousins, friends and a special friend, Deborah Roberts.
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be.
So he put his arms around you and whispered “Come to Me“.
Safe in God‘s Keeping, I am home in Heaven dear ones
Oh so happy and so bright, There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief are over, Every restless yearning past
I am now at peace forever, Safely home in Heaven at last.
Dear ones do not grieve so sorely, For I love you dearly still
Try to look beyond earth‘s shadows Pray to trust our Father‘s Will.
When your work is all completed, He will gently call you Home
Oh the rapture of that meeting! Oh the joy to see you come!
