William “Sonny” Evans earned his eternal resting home on December 12, 2021.  Born on March 12, 1936, in Laurel, Mississippi to the late Wesley and Rosa Evans, Sonny was the second of seven children.

 

He received his education at Portsmouth Public Schools and attended I.C. Norcom High School.  Afterwards, Sonny began working as a Longshoreman and went on to retire after 20 years of service.

 

Sonny married the beautiful, kind-hearted Shirlene Geneva Jones-Evans and their union produced Curtis Evans of Brooklyn, NY; Dena Williams (Steven) of Portsmouth, VA; and Avis Evans of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

 

Sonny had a passion for vehicles, motorcycles and technology and he was an active member of The Tiger Riders Motorcycle Club.

 

His parents preceded him in death along with his brothers, Richard Curtis Evans and Vernon Evans.

 

Sonny is survived by his children-Curtis, Dena and Avis; sisters-Ruth, Dorothy and Marilyn; brother-James Evans; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
