On December 13, 2018, God called William Cullen Raynor, a native of Colerain, NC, home.  He was preceded in death by his sisters and brothers, Mary, Hattie, Sadie, Frank, Joseph (JT) and Willie (Buddy).  He was the youngest son of Joseph and Lula Raynor.  His nickname given by Sister Mary Lucille was “Coodie.”

At an early age William joined the Piney Woods Chapel Baptist Church.  He also attended the C.G. White School.  His journey would carry him into the U.S. Air Force, where he was able to travel around the world.  William would eventually retire from the military after 24 years as a decorated Air Force Non-Commissioned Officer.  Upon retirement, William remained busy working in a computer technology for Brinks Security Company and Wachovia Bank.  He later joined the Greater Deep Creek Elks Lodge #1033 after moving from Alexandria, Virginia.

After some years, William began to experience health challenges which required some additional caretakers.  We are grateful today for Clarence Raynor, Chauntae Raynor and Katie “Nukie” Grimes who all were very supportive and kind in serving.

William leaves to cherish his memory: Rita Lashay, Lucille and Katherine.  He also leaves a brother-in-law, Joseph Shambley (Pete) and sister-in-law, Madie Jones, along with a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

His favorites quotes were: “Never give up!” and “Try it first!”

Viewing will be held at Corprew Funeral Home on Friday, December 21, 2018, from 12 noon to 8 pm.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2018, 12 noon at Fourth Baptist Church, 726 Effingham Street, Portsmouth, Virginia 23704.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E.
