Wayne D. Downing, 50, departed this life on October 30, 2016 in Dover, Delaware. He was born on February 25, 1966 in Portsmouth, Virginia to the late Florine Downing and Ruben Downing, and William Parker.
Wayne earned a full football athletic scholarship to North Carolina State University, where he studied Liberal Arts. He served in the Army during the Persian Gulf War and was honorably discharged from duty. He most recently managed Race Track Car Wash in Dover, DE. Along with being a fierce Cowboys fan, Wayne also enjoyed cooking and drawing.
He is survived by: daughters, Shanta Lymon of Cameron, North Carolina; Shenay Graham of Chesapeake, VA; sons, Wayne Jr. of Killeen, Texas; Deemise Collier of Philadelphia, PA; Thomas Walkup of Chesapeake, VA; twin brother, Dwayne Downing of Kingston, Pennsylvania, Anthony Downing of Dover, Delaware, Stanley Downing (Cheryl) of Harrington, Delaware, Renita Danielle of Columbia, South Carolina, Cynthia Parker-Stuart of Lakewood, California, William Parker of Chino Hills, California, Karen Parker of Boise, Idaho, Sonya Parker of San Bernardino, California; 7 grandchildren; a host of uncles, aunts, numerous nieces and nephews all of whom are his favorites. He was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Deborah Downing.
The family will receive friends at Corprew Funeral Home, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA 23704 on Sunday, Nov. 6th from 2 pm – 5 pm. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Wayne will be held Monday, Nov. 7th at First Baptist Church Gilmerton, 1617 Shell Road, Chesapeake, VA at 11 am. The celebration will be officiated by Pastor John L. Ashby III.
