Velma R Dancy, 74, passed away Sunday, December 25th at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. She found a good fight and won her battle against cancer. Velma was born February 10, 1942 in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Velma dedicated her life with humility to the service of others. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant, Domestic, and private duty nurse. You could always find her in her nursing uniform, kissing on a baby. She loved the Lord with all her heart and soul and went willing into the loving arms of her Savior. Heaven smiled when Jesus called her name.

Grateful to have known her and left to cherish her memory is her daughter Hannah Dancy-Dunbar (Michael); brothers Lathan Dancy (June), James Dancy (Tonia), and Frank Dancy; sisters, Mary McCall (Feral), and Cathleen Dancy-Williams (Robert); grandchildren, Elon Dancy, Tyler Keene, and Hailey Dancy Dunbar; one aunt, Ruthie Batts; a host of nieces, nephew, cousins and other relatives; and special friends Inez Harris, Barbara Wilson, Carolyn Payton, and Kameelah Rashada. She is predeceased by her parents Benjamin and Mary Ann Dancy, and brothers Benjamin Jr, Melvin and Thomas Dancy.

The family will receive friends at Corprew Funeral Home in Portsmouth, Virginia on Friday, December 30, 2016 from 6 pm to 8 pm. Her homegoing will be celebrated at 12pm Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 2804 Holland Rd, Virginia Beach, VA.
