On November 19, 2021, the Lord called home another one of His soldiers, Thaddaeus Alexander Lamb, Sr., after a lifetime of honorable service here on earth. An avid Washington Football Team fan, he possessed a loving heart the size of a football field and a contagious winning smile. As the angels cheered “Drive on Soldier…DRIVE ON,” our beloved Washington Football Team fan drove into the end zone of life, scoring an eternal victory! He lived a purpose-filled life worthy of the highest commendations and received the ultimate SALUTE from God: “Well done thy good and faithful servant!”
Born on July 25, 1959, Thad was the third child born to Theodore Lamb, Sr. and the late Dorothy Alexander Lamb. He was an August 1977 graduate of Manor High School and matriculated from Norfolk State University in May 1983, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. Thad was a proud member of the NSU Chesapeake Alumni Chapter. He married the love of his life, Valerie Lynette Vann, and to that union was born two children: Thad Jr. and Jasmine.
The Highly Decorated Soldier
Thad enlisted in the United States Army on December 6, 1983 and served faithfully in that capacity until being honorably discharged with 19 years of military service. At the time of retirement, Thad held the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6) where his Military Occupational Specialties (MOS) were 63B30 Light Wheel Vehicle Mechanic and 88M30 Motor Transport Operator. His educational accomplishments included Light Wheel Vehicle Training, the Primary Leadership Development Course, and the Basic Non-Commission Officer Course. Thad’s dedicated service earned him the following decorations and awards: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (3rd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (6th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (4th Award), and Driver and Mechanic Badge with Operator/S Bar.
Thad’s extensive military career was followed by impressive civil employment with Chesapeake Public Schools, where he exemplified the same high caliber of dedication and honorable service. He served as a Security Officer for Chesapeake Alternative School for six years, prior to being employed as an Assistant Coordinator of Student Attendance for the school district for 10 years. Thad recently retired in June 2021 after a total of 16 years.
On the Battlefield for the Lord
Thad was a great man of valor and trusted the Lord to order his steps. He was an active member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church where he was a part of the Tribe of Asher. He enjoyed serving on the Veterans Ministry, Audio Ministry, Van Ministry, and the Male Choir. He exhibited the fruit of the spirit by displaying love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, and faithfulness to all he encountered. Many experienced Thad’s generosity as recipients of his masterful chef skills and passion for cooking. He recognized that his hands were anointed by the Lord, and literally used his God-given talent to feed the hungry and be a blessing to all who would partake. Thad’s life was a testament of a man of great stature, with a humble spirit, and a giving heart. He always showed himself to be friendly, earning many allies along the journey of life.
