June 20, 1942 - November 26, 2017
Our beloved brother, father, and grandfather, Sylvester “Jack” Jackson Jr., 75, of Portsmouth, Virginia went to eternal rest on November 26, 2017. He was the second child born on June 20, 1942 to the late Elizabeth Veale-Jackson and Sylvester B. Jackson Sr. of Portsmouth, Virginia. Sylvester was educated in the Portsmouth Public School System, graduating from I.C. Norcom in 1960. After graduating, he attended Norfolk State University.
Jack was a member of First Baptist Church South Portsmouth, where he was a member of the Men’s Ministry. He was employed for several years at General Electric, Norfolk Naval Base in the Maintenance Department, and was also a bus driver, as well as a courier.
Jack leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Deaconess Sylvia Weston; children, Maris Jackson, Sonya Staton, Susan Faircloth (Andre’), Sylvester Jackson III, and Chiante’ Crowell; devoted nephew, Geoffrey R. Weston; grandchildren, Demarco Green, Antoinae Staton, Antoine “AJ” Staton, Larry Jackson, Xavier Jackson, Lorenzo Faircloth II, Keyshawn Williamson, Quaid Jackson, Prozell Bailey, Davian Squire, London Cherebin; great grandchildren, Nala Walls, Cahari Staton and Logan Staton; special cousin, Deaconess Willie Mae Lovett; special friend, Netha Jacobs.
The family will like to thank All About You Health Services and Nurses, Ashley Winston, Barbara Keeling, and Chiante’ Crowell for the attentive care given to Jack. We thank God for Bon Secours Hospital of Portsmouth, doctors, nurses, and caregivers.
Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017, from 2 pm to 5 pm at Corprew Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2017, 11 am at First Baptist Church South Portsmouth, 1445 Centre Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23704. Rev. Warren E. Amlet, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Cemetery, Portsmouth, VA.
