Our beloved Saundra S. Delk, 55, of Suffolk, Virginia was called home on August 18, 2016. With her loving and supportive family by her side, she fought her illness courageously and passed away peacefully at home.
Saundra was born on November 16, 1960, in Chester, SC. She was the youngest of two daughters to Virgiree and the late Odell Caldwell, Jr. At the age of three, her parents relocated to Portsmouth, VA.
Saundra accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of First Baptist Church South Portsmouth. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1979 where she participated in the chorus sang for four years. She attended Norfolk State University and studied Business Administration.
Saundra enjoyed working with her dad on housing construction projects and this would later influence her career path. Her passion for housing and helping people led her to work at the Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority. She finished her career at the Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority as a Senior Community Development Program Manager before illness forced her early retirement.
In April 1986, Saundra married Robert Stewart, who tragically lost his life in a car accident in 1988.
Saundra married her loving husband, William Delk, September 18, 2004. They spent countless hours on cruise ships and traveling the country. Her kind and loving spirit brought joy to all who met her. Saundra was affectionately known as “Aunt KK” and she loved spending time with her family and friends.
Left to cherish precious memories are her loving husband, William Delk and his children, Brandon (Aimee) Delk, Bryen Delk, Brianah Delk; grandson, Jaiden Delk;mother, Virgiree Caldwell; sister, Vernice (Myke) Parham; nephews, Christopher Odell (Loren) Epps, Sr.; Terrell Epps; great-nieces, Madison and Chloe Epps; great-nephew, Christopher Odell Epps, Jr; motherin-law, Jacqueline Delk; sisters-in-law, Tracey Delk-Hart; Robin Delk; and brother-in-law, Dion Delk and a host of relatives and friends.
A celebration of Saundra’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, 11 am at First Baptist Church South Portsmouth, 1445 Centre Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23704. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. A wake service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 6 pm to 8 pm at Corprew Funeral Home.
