Sarah Elizabeth Floyd—known to most as “Sissy” was born November 8, 1945 in Providence, RI to George and Ruth Shields. Sarah was educated in Providence Public Schools and was a graduate of Hope High School. She resided in Providence until 1980, when she relocated to Baltimore MD where she attended Baltimore Community College. Sarah later moved to Suffolk VA to reside in the William H Plummer Plaza and live closer to her church family. A life-long member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ, Sarah was known for her beautiful singing voice and was often called upon as a soloist in the church’s concerts. Sarah also served as the secretary for the Baltimore Congregation for many years.
Although she never had children of her own, she loved children and was known as Aunt Sissy to many! In addition to her love for music, Sarah enjoyed baking and had a collection of recipes and cookbooks.
Sarah was predeceased by her parents and her brother Donald “Sonny” Shields. She leaves to mourn her sisters, Donna McLeod of Hampton, VA, Carolyn Wayman of Ellenwood GA, Renee DaLomba of East Providence RI and many nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.
