 Deacon Emeritus Sallie Francis Goodley was born Sallie Robinson on March 2, 1922 in Emporia, VA where after losing her mother at a very young age, she came to live with her aunt and cousins.  (One cousin Ethel McHenry was also a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church). 

    At age fourteen, Sallie went to live with her brother in Washington, D.C. where she resided until adulthood.  She later relocated to Portsmouth, VA with family and friends where she became a lifetime member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church during the 1950’s.  She served in numerous capacities until she was no longer able.  She also served her community through the Y.M.C.A.’s Board where she became an integral part of the Outreach Programs.

  It was also in Portsmouth, VA where she met her Beloved Matthew “Freddie” Goodley who was serving in the Navy and stationed in Portsmouth at that time.  They were married for over 60 plus years.  Deacon Matthew Goodley passed away on March 19, 2017.

    Sister Goodley became a Seamstress for the Military and served thru the Naval Exchange, Naval Regional Medical Center and Scott Center Posts for over 40 years.  She agreed to retire when she could no longer “thread a needle”.  She retired twice.

    Our dear Sister Goodley leaves to share her memories her daughter Angela Adell Dawson  and son-in-law Thomas Allen Dawson of Hampton; granddaughters LaToyia Patrice Goodley of Portsmouth,, VA whom she and her husband lovingly raised; granddaughter Sallie Michelle Dawson of Hampton; cousin Charlotte McHenry Cooper of New Llano, Louisiana; her Church family; numerous civic and social organizations, Truxton Chapter #63 OES- PHA of Virginia whom she dedicated much service to; precious friends the Downey and Brown families; Mr. Jeff Milton and the Williams Family from the neighborhood; Deacon and Deaconess Hamlin; Deacon Frank Boone, Jr. and Family; Deacon Arnold;  Minister Rogers; Mr. and Mrs. Don-Lee Jenkins; Ms. Silver Bunn and Mrs. Fredirika Winborne her caring companions.   We thank you for the legacy.

 A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2017, 11 am, at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 901 Thomas Circle, Portsmouth, Virginia  23704.  Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, 1101 Campostella Rd., Chesapeake, VA  23320.
