Ruthie Ann Batts left her home to arrive at heaven’s gate on February 8, 2017 where every day is Sunday and roses never fade. Ruthie was the daughter of the late Ruth Batts and Virginia Braswell Batts. She was born on October 25, 1921 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina. Ruthie attended Portsmouth Public Schools and later worked for Mary Jane Bakery.

Ruthie’s life was not in vain. She cherished life, family, and friends. Ruthie was feisty and full of a fire that was often contagious. She loved cooking and sharing good food and sweet treats. She was a soft hearted, sweet, giving person who spoke her mind and will be remembered by most as an angel. She always offered great hospitality with a loving heart and open arms. She cared for everyone children with the same level of love and had tons of “Sugar Babies”

Survivors left to cherish her memory are one son-in-law Percy Martin Sr; one grand-daughter, Sharon Martin; three -grandsons, Percy Martin Jr. (Alberta), Darryl Martin, and Warren Martin; ten grandchildren, Frank Martin, Tramayne Martin, Latoya Parker, Terrell Martin, Darryl Martin Jr., Tenesha Martin, Dominic Martin, Torrey Martin, Jordan Martin, and Malik Martin; one great-grand daughter, Erin McGuile-Berry; one great-grandson Jayden Martin and a host of cousins, family, and friends. She is predeceased by Sisters Sallie Ann, Mary Anne; one brother Joe Cherry, and her one beloved daughter Margaret Martin.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017, 1 pm at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake, VA.  Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will be held on Thursday, February 16th from 12 Noon to 8 pm.
