Mr. Ruebin Mitchell Williams was born on June 5, 1923, to the late John Williams and Essie Lee in Windsor, North Carolina. He departed this life on Monday, May 30, 2022, at Autumn Care Nursing Home of Portsmouth, Virginia. Ruebin received his early education through Portsmouth Public Schools, and he attended I. C. Norcom High School. He was a U. S. Army veteran and worked for 36 years with the Federal Government at the Naval Supply Center, Bldg. 134 in Norfolk, Va. until he retired. He received numerous awards and certificates throughout his career.

Ruebin grew up in the Pinners Point section of the city, where he met his lovely wife, the late Ruby Bates Williams. They married in 1950, and later moved to Victory Manor where he remained as a longtime resident until his death. He was a former member of Truxtun, Doric Ionic Masonic Lodge #91 and Shriners Arabia Temple #12. He was also a founding member and Worthy Patron of Order of the Eastern Star Rhoda Chapter #231.

Ruebin was a good listener, and you could talk to him about anything. He always gave good advice about life situations and financial wellness. He loved working on construction projects and doing repairs around his home as well as the homes of his neighbors and friends. One of his dear childhood friends described him as a nice, good looking leveled-headed guy, but he didn’t take no mess. He loved his family immensely, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was well liked and respected by his neighbors in Victory Manor and friends of his family in Maryland.

Ruebin was predeceased by his parents, his wife and his daughter, Ruby F. Williams. Left to cherish his memories are: his daughter, Rubenia Williams-Winston and son-in-law, Warren E. Winston, Jr.; grandson, Warren Mitchell Winston; granddaughter, Erin Genice Winston and her fiancée, Troy Eatmon; Great grandsons: Warren Richard “Richie” Winston and Amani “Moni” Eatmon; 3 sisters: Vivian Felton Scott, Rosetta Harrison, and Novella Ferguson; sister-in-law, Frances Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. He has left the family with precious memories, and his legacy will go on in the future generations.
