Phyllis married Timothy Ward in 1957 and embarked on the life of a military spouse, moving from New York to California and other locales during their years of active military service. She took time to learn the local history of places where they were stationed and ensured that her girls got library cards, took dance lessons, learned to play instruments (if desired) and participated in activities such as the Girl Scouts of America. She was also an adult Girl Scout volunteer and served as a troop leader for several years. Phyllis and Timothy were married for 51 years and settled in Virginia after he retired from the Navy. He preceded her in death in 2008.
As a young girl Phyllis attended church with her mother and she continued in the Christian faith as an adult. She was an early member of Rhema Christian Center in Columbus, Ohio and after her move to Virginia she became a very active member of The Rock Church in Virginia Beach where she served in the prayer ministry. If you knew anything about Phyllis, you knew her faith in God was strong.
Phyllis is survived by one sister, four daughters, fifteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Phyllis went home to meet her Lord and Savior on December 19, 2022. He welcomed her with open arms and said “Well done thy good and faithful servant.
