Paul Hunter Saunders, 79, departed this life on August 26, 2018.  He was born to the late Timothy Benton Saunders and the late Bertine “Lay” Hunter Saunders on August 3, 1939 in Gates County, NC.  Paul was a graduate of Crestwood High School in Chesapeake, VA. After graduating high school, he joined the Army and was ranked as a private E-2 specializing as a projectionist.  He was also ranked as an expert in firearms.

 Paul met and fell in love with Susan Nabors Saunders and was married soon thereafter.  A daughter, Sherrie Yevette Saunders was born to this union.  He was a loving father and doted on his daughters, Jacquelyn C. Saunders and Jayasri H. Shaw.  He was a loving grandfather to Legaci Davis and A’Mia Jasmine Frasier.

 Paul resided in New Haven, CT while he was married and was employed at Winchester Repeating Arms also known as the Olin Corporation.  He was employed in New Brunswick, NJ with the Wakefern Food Corporation in the Shop Rite Warehouse division where he retired after 22 years.

 Paul was a loving and warm-hearted man who was very independent and strong.  He loved to party and have fun.  One of his most frequented bars was Whiskey World, where he shared a lot of memories with many friends. He was very charismatic and loved the ladies.  He was known as “Slim Jim,” the “ladies’ pimp” and passed on the crown to his son-in-law Alex Frasier.  He was a family man and spent many memories with his Saunders cousins in North Carolina and Virginia. 

 Those left to cherish his memories are: his daughters, Sherrie Yevette Saunders, Jacquelyn C. Saunders, and Jayasri H. Shaw (Alex); two granddaughters, Legaci Davis and A’Mia J. Frasier; special cousins, Anthony Saunders, Oniel Knight, Quincy Saunders, Abb Saunders; and a host of cousins and many friends.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 4, 2018, 12 noon at Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, 1822 Portsmouth Blvd., Portsmouth, VA .  Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 3920 Airline Blvd., Chesapeake, VA  23321.
