It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Oscar Scott, Jr., also affectionately known as Brother. Beloved by many, he transitioned on the morning of August 13, 2023.
Born August 30, 1946, Dr. Oscar Scott, Jr. was a native of Portsmouth, VA where he participated in the Boy Scouts and attended Portsmouth Public Schools. He was a proud graduate of I.C. Norcom High School and was very active with their alumni events. Oscar would later matriculate at Norfolk State University, Syracuse University, and Old Dominion University where he would respectively earn his Bachelor, MBA, and Ph.D degrees.
While a student at NSU, Oscar was initiated in the Epislon Zeta Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. during the Fall of 1968. He would later be one of the four founding advisors of the Eta Eta Chapter at Kettering University/University of Michigan at Flint, then known as General Motors Institute in 1973. Professionally, Oscar served in the roles of an employment specialist, financial educator, sales, and his most enjoyed role as a collegiate professor at various universities.
Oscar is preceded in death by his parents Oscar Scott, Sr., Johnnie Mae Scott, and brother Willie Marion Lassiter. He leaves cherished memories for his children from his former union to Jacquelyn: Shelley, Oscar, III (Candace), DuBois (Kimberly), and Jaclyn. From his previous union with Gloria: Joy (Chad) and Adrienne. He is also survived by his two sisters Ann and Virginia Sue. Oscar was a dedicated and loving grandfather and great-grandfather. Additionally, Brother was a beloved uncle and cousin to a plethora of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. He also leaves behind his special friend, Vicki. Oscar was extremely proud of his Haliwa-Saponi heritage and stayed connected with our family tribe.
