Onella “Nell” Clark, 75, gained her heavenly wings on April 14, 2022. She was born March 13, 1947, to the late Ludell and Willie B. Sykes, Sr.
Born and raised in Portsmouth, VA, Onella graduated from I.C. Norcom High School and worked at Piccadilly Restaurant as a Line Server. She was a lifetime member of Fourth Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and in the S. L. Chancellor Choir. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Virginia State Bowling Association.
Onella is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dennis McCoy Clark, her brothers- Willie Blount and Henry Blount and Donald Banks, her longtime companion.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted daughter-Onetta Michelle Gatling; one sister-Carolyn L. Jones; three brothers-Theodore C. Sykes, Willie B. Sykes, Jr. and Freddie L. Sykes; four grandchildren-Chenita R. Wiggins, LaShawn N. Gatling, Alvin M. Gatling and Sharon E. Gatling; nine great-grandchildren-Keyshawn Z. Brown, Keymani Z. Towns, Zaiyah L. Gatling, Kennedy S. Gatling, Kameron E. C. Whitehurst, Akira J. Sutton, Jayden D. Sutton, Maxwell W. Sutton and Shimyael Holt; along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 11am, at Fourth Baptist Church, Pastor Charles W. Beamon presiding.
