OBITUARY
“Do not let your hearts be troubled; Yea believe in God, believe also in me. My Father’s house has many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you that I’m going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:3
Our beloved Aunt Odessa Elizabeth Carr departed this life on January 19, 2021 for her heavenly home. She is preceded in death by parents Joseph and Mary Carr, along with brothers Joseph Jr.; James; Robert; Frank; Donald; and sisters Martha Whitfield and Beatrice Little.
Odessa was born June 11, 1926 in Portsmouth Va., where she attended and completed her high school education. She worked for several dry cleaning establishments where she greeted everyone with that sweet smile and her famous “hi darling” expression that made everyone who knew her feel like family. She attended First Baptist Church, South Portsmouth where she served on the Usher Board and the Pastor’s Aid under the leadership of the Rev. Warren Hamlett until her health failed.
She never had any biological children but you would never have known because she helped raise so many children that need her love and attention. She leaves to mourn a host of nephews and nieces along with many other caring friends and neighbors. Sleep on dear Auntie and take your rest, we all loved you but God loved you best.
