COVID19 REGULATIONS FOR ATTENDING VIEWING AND CHAPEL SERVICES AT CORPREW FUNERAL HOME
Due to the recent increase in COVID19 cases, the governor of Virginia has established guidelines to reduce the spread of this pandemic virus. In an effort to keep our families, staff and facilities protected and safe, we are asking that all visitors comply with the following directives:
** Be subject to temperature checks, hand sanitation and social distancing of nothing less than 6 feet within the facility
**Facial coverings that cover the nose and mouth are required and must remain on while inside of the facilities for viewing and services
** Refrain from kissing, hugging, embracing others as your enter or leave the facilities to help reduce the spread of the virus
** If you are experiencing a cold or flu-like symptoms, please do not enter the funeral home at any time
** Chapel services are limited to 10 People, per Governor’s New Order and Mandate effective Monday, December 14, 2020
** During viewing hours, visitors may enter 10 at a time through a walk through process of viewing the deceased without lingering or having a large gathering

Nathaniel “Jukie” Blount was born June 30, 1945 he was predeceased by his parents Mr. Russell J. & Mrs. Margaret Lee Blount, and predeceased by six siblings, Ephraim Blount, James Blount, Charles Blount, Ernest Blount, Milton Perry, and Eloise White. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Marion “Punkin ” aka “Neicy” Blount-Fagan, from the union with Diane Simon-Blount, two loving granddaughters, Bria N. Fagan, and Morgan D. Fagan. He is also survived by eight siblings, Marjorie Hayes, Tina Roberts, Sandra Covington, Hazel Jean Thomas, Leon Blount (Linda), Marvin Blount, Clarence Blount, Alonzo Blount, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and special friends.
Nate was a military servant for over 20 years he served his country honorably as a 1st Sergeant in the United States Army. His career took him all over the world more than once. His formal education was received from the Portsmouth Public School System, where he attended I.C. Norcom High School. He was drafted in the United States Army on November 23, 1965. In the military, Nate became the Combat Arms Drill Instructor-at Fort Dix, New Jersey. During two tours in the Republic of Viet- Nam, as Platoon Sergeant and transportation truck master, he ran convoys throughout the military zones as fuel class 1,2,3,4,5 and PX merchandiser and engineer equipment operator. Nate served two tours in Germany where, he was assigned to the V-Corps Headquarters Inspector. In the General’s office, serving as inspector in maintenance, Morale Support Activities, and Housing and Transportation Motor Pools.
He retired as a Tank Support Maintenance Supervisor at the support Battalion in December 1985. Nate worked for HESS Petroleum, Inc. and the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office in Norfolk, VA. After 8 weeks of training at the Norfolk Sheriff office, he returned for duty as a deputy sheriff and was promoted throughout the ranks of Corporal, Sergeant, and Lieutenant. In March 1999, he would retire a second time after 15 years of service. Nathaniel was a lifetime member of the following organizations: AMVETS Local Post 14, AMVETS Department of Virginia, American Legion Post 190, and Disabled American Veterans-Chapter 27. Nate served as the Claims Officer for Disabled American Veterans- Chapter 27. He was a faithful member of American Legion Post #190. He was a charter member with local AMVETS Post 14, and served as the Post Public Relations Officer. Nate served the AMVETS Department of Virginia in the following capacities as Past Vice Commander, Virginia Finance Committee Officer-at-Large and Vice Chair of several other committees. Nate received numerous accolades from the Department of Virginia.
One of Nates many jobs as a young man was that of assisting to build Interstate 264 Highway. He often shared stories of his love for the City of Portsmouth. Nate would often assist fellow comrades and Portsmouth citizens in navigating through paperwork for most any issue they may be confronted with in receiving services/assistance.
He worked out the trunk of his car and or truck most days after Covid infiltrated the area. He use to meet fellow comrades at the Waffle World restaurant on Western Branch Blvd. in the Churchland area of the city, while having his morning breakfast, to navigate their concerns, he would also set up meetings in the Portsmouth Court Street Public Library in the Law office room, it was quiet and rendered privacy. He networked with many non-profit organizations to supply the needs of the community and directed them to Veterans Affairs agencies to obtain aid where needed in assisting them in surviving in the civilian/outside world.
Many of the residents at Hope Village, Madison Village, Southside Gardens, Silver Tree Seniors of Portsmouth, and surrounding communities on that Southside section of the city were blessed by the community service efforts of Nathaniel Blount.
