Natasha Anncynthia Collins James was born on May 3, 1948 in Pensacola Florida. She was the eldest daughter of Herman and Naomi Collins. Her father Herman Collins USN, Ret. and brother Herman P. Collins preceded her in death. She was the first grandchild in her maternal family and always remembered the special love she received from family. She rededicated her life to the Lord and was a member of Third Baptist Church and also frequently attended Faith Fellowship Community Church.
At a young age Natasha relocated to Portsmouth, Virginia with her family and attended Portsmouth Public Schools. She graduated from I.C Norcom High School in 1967 where she was a proud member of the majorette squad in the marching band. She loved most sports and watching her brothers play football.
Natasha attended Norfolk State University where she studied Health and Physical Education. She also joined the majorette squad of the Marching Spartans. She met and married Marvin James of Chesapeake, Virginia and became the mother of Marla Alexandria. Years later, she would welcome a son, Marius Sergio.
Natasha was a hard worker and learned new skills quickly, her excellent typing and coding skills made her an office asset. Employment positions included Norfolk and Portsmouth Department of Social Services, Norfolk Naval Air Station and Portsmouth Naval Medical Center. She retired in 2019.
Retirement offered the time to create a large, plentiful garden with her mother. She loved flowers and plants and took great pride in things she grew. She was usually found in a kitchen during the holidays making a dish. She loved her children and grandchildren and often found ways to give and share with them. She was helpful to anyone she knew in need and would take food and clothing to nursing homes and shelters.
A special project that occupied her time was her pop-up style boutique where she sold home interior decorations and clothing. She worked many hours in the shop continued this until her death. She was an encourager to people who knew her.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a mother Naomi Harris Collins, a daughter Marla Alexandria James of Norfolk, Virginia, a son, Marius Sergio James of Suffolk, Virginia, a brother Sebastian Collins of Charlottesville, Virginia, a sister, Alischis Collins Mattix (Larry) of Chesapeake, Virginia, a sister Mikia Collins Pollard (Dwight) of St. Louis, Missouri, a sister-in-law, Wendy Collins (Herman, deceased), two grandsons Iziah James (Richmond, Virginia) and Elijah James (Kansas), one uncle, Jessie Harris, Jr. (Ceola) of Pensacola, Florida, golden friends Marvin and Shirley and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbors and loving friends.
