Mrs. Mildred Langston Lawrence Porter (Birdi) wife of the late Arthur Nathaniel Porter and the daughter of the late Mattie Elizabeth and Zeb Langston was born on December 25, 1939, in Murfreesboro, N.C.
Mildred graduated from Hayden High School in Franklin, Virginia. She attended Elizabeth City State University and received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She taught many years at Ivor Elementary School, Ivor, VA. Her teaching career continued in the Virginia Beach School System where she retired with 32 years of service.
Mildred enjoyed reading and discussing her Daily Spiritual Devotions. She loved tending to her flower garden. She always valued learning new information and sharing it with family members to help them in their endeavors.
Mildred was a member of Olive Branch Baptist Church, Portsmouth, VA. She was very involved in her church by serving on the Deaconess Board, as well as teaching Vacation Bible School.
MILDRED is survived by her daughter Trinita Porter of the home, Maria Wilkins, of Plymouth, NC and Kathy Williams (Bobbie), Cumming, GA, sons Cyrus Lawrence (Marivic) of Franklin VA, John Lawrence (Patricia) of Alexandria, VA, Bruce Lawrence, of Edenton, NC, and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Louise Lawrence of Franklin, VA and a host of nieces and nephews.
