Mildred Dozier was born July 14, 1934 in Belcross, N.C., to Eddie and Laura (Godfrey) Moore, whom both preceded her in death. She received her early education in Belcross and Elizabeth City, N.C. and later attended school in Norfolk, Va. Also at an early age she united in Holy Matrimony to Cecil C. Midgett, Sr. bringing into the world eight amazing children. She professed her hope in Christ at an early age. She joined the Guiding Light Apostolic Church of Christ after relocating to Portsmouth, Va. She served as a faithful member under the leadership of 3 pastors. (Bishop Lamb, Bishop Bolden and Bishop Anthony). She also served on the kitchen committee, a member of the Naomi Circle, a member of several Church Anniversary Committees and faithfully as a member of the Pastors Aide committee.

As a professional, Mildred worked as a teachers aid at the St. Helena’s School Head Start Program. She also worked as an assistant in the Social Services Dept. of Portsmouth, Va. Later in life she became self-employed and owned and managed her private Day Care facility offering love, hope, kindness and encouragement to several community parents and children. She was active in her community serving as a Girl Scout Troop leader, Foster parent, shelter for abused children and any other endeavor that required genuine love and affection for young people.

Later in life she married the late Mr. Jerry Dozier. They made their home in the Cavalier Manor township of Portsmouth, VA., raising two additional amazing young ladies…Borishia and Donetta. In 2016 her health began to fail and she was no longer able to attend church as often as she desired. Instead, she traveled the coast living with her children in N.C., Missouri, Georgia and Alabama. Her final place of residence was at the Dogwood Forest Assisted Living Facility in Acworth, Ga. She remained there until June 13, 2020 when the Lord ended her battle with sickness and called her home.

She shared her life with 3 sisters…Hattie Moore, Rena Walker, Evelyn Johnson, one brother Eddie C. Moore and a stepmother Clara Moore. Also, two sons, Boris Midgett, Portsmouth, Va. and Cecil C. Midgett, Jr. of Frederick, Md. along with a grandson, Christopher Reynaurd Midgett of Portsmouth, Va. All of whom preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted children: Cecelia Jordon, Glen Burnie, Md.; Alphonso (Vanessa) Midgett, Harvest, Al; Ronnie (Clarisse) Midgett, Hedgesville, W.Va.; LaBarbara Midgett, Charlotte, NC; Anthony (Pauline) Midgett, Kennesaw, Ga.; Henry “Lee” (Jackie) Midgett, St Peters, Mo.; Lisa Midgett, St Louis, Mo. and Borishia Dozier, Atlanta, Ga., 19 grandchildren, 24 great grand children and 1 great great grandchild along with a host of foster children, other nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.
