Maurice L. Powers, peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on July 23, 2022, at 8:22 am. He was born to the late, Moses Bonner Powers, Sr. and Elder Melissie McDonald Powers on January 14, 1955, in Norfolk, Virginia.
Maurice graduated from high school in 1974. After graduating, he attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland and Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He developed an interest in the field of technology and graduated from the Electronic Computer Programing Institute (ECPI) ahead of his class.
After earning his technical degree, Maurice explored career opportunities abroad and worked for Honeywell in Boston, Massachusetts and Texas Instruments in Houston, Texas. He later moved to New Orleans, Louisiana where he worked on an oil rig and was a Disc Jockey (DJ) for a major radio station there for several years before relocating back to his hometown, Norfolk, Virginia.
Maurice was an intelligent, reflective and quiet spirited man who was a brilliant mathematician. There was no math problem that he could not solve and no equipment or device too hard for him to repair or fix. His competitive nature and strong desire to be mentally challenged inspired him to become an avid chess player. In his more active years, Maurice was fast on his feet whether he was being chased by his pregnant mother as a toddler or by his peers on the football field. His interest included playing football, watching sports especially football during the holiday seasons and listening to music.
Maurice leaves to cherish his memories 5 siblings Bonita Otey (Ricky), Moses Powers Jr., Terry Powers (Sheila), Dr. Vivian Powers, Hope Powers and nephews and nieces Damon Powers (Paulita), Dr. Stacey Scott (Jason), Stephanie Otey (Vonda), Terry Powers, Jr., Corey Powers, Brandon Powers, Maranatha Powers-Tutt (NW), Hanna Powers and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
