Mary A. Baylor of Portsmouth, VA, born February 14, 1936, transitioned on August 15, 2019. Mary was born in Hertford County, North Carolina to the late Leroy and Adel C. Askew. She was the older sister and best friend to the late Lorraine Vann. Mary was also the loving wife of the late Nathan P. Baylor. Mary was a faithful Member of the New Bethel Baptist Church.
She is survived by her four beloved sons, Christopher, Aaron, Alphonso, Alonzo; her daughters-in-law, Ynella and Darlene and her step-children, Alveteus, Bruce, Tawana and Raynard; her grandchildren, Amina, Angela, Aramah, Alan, Ladarius, Alonzo Jr., Dominique, Krystle, Tiffany, Larry, Nicole and her great-grandchildren, Sean and Ariana; her nieces, Angelia L. Stancil and Beth Vann, and nephews, James Vann II and Lonnie Stancil; her cousins, Naomi, Tina, Alice and Faye, Clay and Dwayne Murrell, as well as many other relatives. She had several very good friends that included Greta Jones, Issac McNeil, Dorothy DeSue, Cynthia Banks, Forris & Violet Anthony, Sarah Jones, and her close friend, Leonard Lipscomb.
Mary was also a member of the Nurses Ministry, Irene Woodard Missionary Group, Survivors Club and Deaconess Board, Ladies Auxiliary of Fleet Reserve.
The viewing will be held on August 30, 2019 at Corprew Funeral Home in Portsmouth, VA from 3:00pm – 7:00 pm. The funeral will be held on August 31, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church in Portsmouth, VA. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens  Norfolk, Va. In lieu of flowers contributions should be made to New Bethel Nurses Ministry.
